AI Engineer

About the role

Apify is building the largest marketplace of tools for AI, enabling both humans and autonomous agents to discover, call, and pay for web‑based services. As an AI Engineer you will help shape the core platform that powers this ecosystem, working on server infrastructure, agent runtimes, and tool discovery mechanisms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain the Apify MCP Server that converts thousands of Actors into reliable tools for autonomous agents.
• Stay ahead of rapidly evolving protocols, handling stateless transports, hardened authorization, and dynamic tool discovery.
• Develop and improve the AI agent runtime, integrating LLM‑driven tool calls and handling edge cases in end‑to‑end tasks.
• Enable autonomous agents to discover and pay for Apify tools using emerging payment standards.
• Build evaluation pipelines that turn production traces into automated tests, detect regressions in CI, and assess product impact.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software development experience, primarily backend.
• Hands‑on experience building systems that interact with large language models and handling associated challenges.
• Self‑directed and comfortable tackling loosely defined problems in a fast‑moving field.
• Familiarity with the Apify platform or strong interest in building developer‑focused AI tools.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
