Internal Principal FDE – AI Tools & Automation Lead

About the role

Phrase is looking for an Internal Principal FDE to own the vision, build, and adoption of AI‑driven internal tools across the company. You will work with stakeholders from Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, Finance, People, Legal and Operations to translate business needs into concrete AI solutions that improve efficiency and drive revenue.

Key responsibilities

• Push the boundary on AI agents, automation and internal tooling, turning ideas into production‑ready solutions for a 240‑person B2B SaaS company.
• Prototype, build and ship tools yourself, not just advise on possibilities.
• Drive adoption of AI tooling across non‑engineering functions, measuring success by behavior change and cycle‑time reduction.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of complex cross‑functional systems such as CPQ, gathering requirements, sequencing work and coordinating champions.
• Run disciplined build‑versus‑buy evaluations for external AI systems, managing vendor conversations and recommendations.
• Chair a virtual AI and automation governance team, overseeing tiering, approvals and data classification.

Required profile

• 8+ years in technology‑business hybrid roles (internal tools product management, RevOps, senior forward‑deployed engineering, etc.).
• Hands‑on credibility with engineers – you have shipped software, read code and built with LLM APIs and agent frameworks.
• Proven track record of driving tool adoption across non‑technical functions with measurable outcomes.
• Experience delivering or owning a complex cross‑functional system (CPQ, ERP, billing, revenue platform).
• Commercial fluency – comfortable discussing revenue, margin and cycle‑time with CFOs and CROs.
