Mechanical Engineer - Gas Turbines Package

About the role

Caterpillar is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical and process engineering of Gas Turbine Packages. The role involves designing auxiliary systems, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting sales and project execution.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical components of gas turbine packages, including lubrication, gas supply, instrument air, filters, starters, gearboxes, pumps and valves.
• Prepare plant layouts, mechanical interface drawings, foundation load calculations, process flow diagrams and P&IDs.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, project managers, supply‑chain, suppliers and customers throughout project execution.
• Create Bills of Materials, issue purchase specifications and manage procurement documentation.
• Support sales negotiations, perform technical risk analysis and assist project managers during execution.
• Lead complex projects, coordinate third‑party contractors and validate detailed engineering deliverables.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering.
• 5‑8 years experience in power‑generation projects, preferably with gas turbines (OEM or EPC).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical/structural analysis, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
• Familiarity with P&IDs, thermal cycles, heat and mass balances and HAZOP studies.
• Fluent English; Italian a plus, German/Spanish/French beneficial.
• Ability to work in multicultural, interdisciplinary environments and travel up to 20 %.

• Mechanical design of turbine packages and auxiliary systems.
• Thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and structural analysis.
• P&ID creation and interpretation.
• HAZOP and technical risk assessment.
• AutoCAD, CREO or SolidWorks drafting.
• Windchill 2D/3D, PDM and ERP systems.
• Knowledge of American/European norms, EU directives (ATEX, PED) and CE‑marking requirements.
