Postdoctoral Researcher – Ultrafast Optics of Phase-Change Materials

About the role

The Department of Structural Dynamics at ELI Beamlines is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the TwinMetro Horizon Europe project, expected to start on 1 January 2027. The role involves cutting‑edge ultrafast optics research on phase‑change materials.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pump–probe and time‑resolved spectroscopic ellipsometry experiments on phase‑change materials.
• Develop and validate measurement protocols, including calibration routines and uncertainty budgets.
• Participate in inter‑laboratory comparison exercises with project partners.
• Create data‑processing and analysis tools and prepare open, reusable datasets.
• Contribute to departmental research activities within national and international collaborations.

Required profile

• PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or a related field; candidates at the end of their PhD are encouraged to apply.
• Hands‑on experience with optical spectroscopy or laser‑based experiments.
• Comfort with data analysis and scientific programming (Python, Matlab, LabVIEW or similar).
• Good networking and communication skills and ability to work in a team.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English for an international work environment.
• Experience with pump–probe techniques, spectroscopic ellipsometry, thin films or phase‑change materials is an asset, but training will be provided.
