Principal Design Engineer / Assistant Chief Engineer – Engine & Hybrid Design

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design teams to develop engine products across market sectors, from clean sheet concepts to production.
• Produce 2D layouts, 3D CAD models, stress calculations, FMEAs, and detailed drawings with GD&T for prototype and volume production.
• Coordinate with assembly, manufacturing and process engineers to ensure designs are manufacturable and support prototype testing.
• Prepare technical reports and present designs to clients, supporting business development and project scoping.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in engine component and subsystem design.
• Proven ability to deliver engine projects from concept through hardware development, meeting quality and milestone targets.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical and communication skills, able to work independently and within matrix organisations.

Required skills

• Engine subsystem knowledge (cranktrain, cylinder block/head, valvetrain, cooling, lubrication, fuel, exhaust, packaging).
• 3D CAD systems such as CATIA V5/V6, Creo or NX.
• DFMEA creation and review, FEA/CFD analysis, and mechanical design calculations.
• PLM tools (e.g., Windchill) and Engineering Change Control (ECN) processes.
