Senior Software Engineer – Messaging Services

About the role

Join the team that builds foundational security and messaging capabilities for Microsoft 365 and Teams. You will design, implement, test, deploy, and operate backend services that power secure, reliable, and globally‑scaled communications.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering, product, security, support, and partner teams to define requirements and drive project and release plans for secure Microsoft 365 messaging scenarios.
• Identify dependencies, create design documents, and develop features and services across the IC3 messaging stack.
• Write, optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve service performance, maintainability, and ROI.
• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), follow operational playbooks, and participate in on‑call rotations to monitor service health.
• Mentor engineers through design and code reviews and help raise the team’s engineering foundation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Professional experience developing and operating production software, especially large‑scale, highly available distributed services.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check.

Required skills

• Proficiency in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Experience with Kubernetes, multi‑region cloud systems, NoSQL data stores, caching, and asynchronous messaging.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and service‑level objectives.
• Interest or experience with cryptography.
