AI Factory Architecture Lead

About the role

ABB's Energy Industries division is building an AI Factory as its AI transformation engine, providing governance, expertise, delivery capabilities, reusable assets and capability development. The AI Factory Architecture Lead acts as the divisional AI technical authority, leading and orchestrating architecture activities across the AI Factory ecosystem. The role is technical leadership and design authority, leading primarily through technical authority, functional leadership and influence rather than direct line management. It is open to candidates worldwide; the final work location is decided after selection and no relocation is required.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and orchestrate AI architecture across the AI Factory portfolio, setting technical direction, priorities and sequencing of architecture work.
• Provide technical and design authority, reviewing and approving AI solution architectures within the defined governance framework.
• Ensure the right architecture competence and capacity are available, working with delivery teams and AI Factory Operations to address gaps.
• Drive common architecture, standards and reuse, developing and maintaining reference architectures, reusable patterns and technical guardrails.
• Lead the AI architecture community, connecting architects and technical experts across delivery organizations.
• Assess emerging AI technologies and keep the technology roadmap relevant, avoiding technical debt and early obsolescence.
• Align technically with Functions, IS, Data organizations, delivery teams and external technology partners, including evaluating delivery approaches and vendors.
• Govern key architecture decisions, balancing innovation, speed, security, sustainability and maintainability, and escalate major cross-domain decisions through AI Factory governance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• At least 8 years of experience in architecture, engineering, solution design or technology leadership.
• Strong technical background with the credibility to lead senior architects and technical specialists.
• Experience leading architecture or technical work across multiple teams and complex initiatives.
• Experience delivering AI, analytics, machine learning or digital platforms in complex enterprise environments.
• Preferred: industrial digitalization or engineering-led environment, technical authority or lead engineering roles, consulting or scale-up experience, and leading technical communities.

• Ability to translate business priorities into technical direction and balance speed, quality, reuse and sustainability.
