Architect, Semantic & Analytics Solutions
Edwards Lifesciences · Prague
Job description
About the role
Edwards Lifesciences is seeking an Architect for Semantic & Analytics Solutions to lead the design of enterprise‑grade semantic and tabular models across Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure Analysis Services. The role focuses on reusability, governance, performance and long‑term maintainability to support the company’s patient‑focused mission.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design of enterprise‑grade semantic and tabular models across Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure Analysis Services, emphasizing reusability, governance and maintainability.
- Architect dimensional models (star/snowflake) that support modern tabular workloads and legacy OLAP cubes.
- Define and evolve standards for model design, naming, calculation groups, row‑level security, deployment pipelines and lifecycle management; recommend appropriate consumption patterns (Import, DirectQuery, Direct Lake, composite models, aggregations).
- Own performance tuning across the stack – source query design, VertiPaq compression, DAX/MDX efficiency and refresh strategy – using tools such as DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, VertiPaq Analyzer and SQL Profiler.
- Set performance benchmarks, monitoring and capacity planning for Power BI Premium, Fabric and Azure Analysis Services, guiding partitioning, aggregation, incremental refresh and storage mode decisions.
- Author advanced DAX/MDX, complex Power Query (M) and T‑SQL scripts; build proof‑of‑concept models before hand‑off to development.
- Review and guide semantic models and report architecture across Insights Engineering and partner teams; contribute to initiatives like the Power BI Center of Excellence and Lakehouse consumption strategy.
- Serve as a technical sounding board across projects, troubleshoot live issues and pair on complex modeling problems.
- Partner with Data Engineering, Data Product and Data Governance to shape upstream structures and translate decisions into documentation, patterns and reusable templates.
- Define and enforce semantic layer governance (certified datasets, metric definitions, version control, release standards) and track the Microsoft analytics roadmap to recommend adoption.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics engineering or data architecture, including time in an architect‑level role.
- Proven experience designing and governing enterprise‑scale semantic and tabular models.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling (star/snowflake) and both modern tabular and legacy OLAP workloads.
- Demonstrated ability to set standards for model design, security, deployment pipelines and lifecycle management.
- Expertise in performance tuning, capacity planning and monitoring for Power BI, Fabric and Azure Analysis Services.
- Ability to author advanced DAX, MDX, Power Query (M) and T‑SQL and to build proof‑of‑concept solutions.
- Experience collaborating with data engineering, product and governance teams and documenting reusable patterns.
