iDEA Project Engineer - Vision Systems & Automation

About the role

Lear Corporation's iDEA Project Engineer works within the EU iDEA Team in Brno, coordinating and supporting the execution of iDEA projects in Robotics, Automation, Maintenance, Digital Twin, Vision Systems and EOL Systems. The goal is to bring these projects into EU and Africa JIT, Trim and Structures plants as part of the EU Industry 4.0 strategy. The role focuses on vision systems and AI projects deployed across the plants, with emphasis on industrial cameras integrated into manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Install solutions and projects in the plant and coordinate hardware installation, controls, network requirements and automation integration with the plant's resources.
• Act as first point of contact for the plant team on solution deployment.
• Support and coordinate onsite testing and trials at different plants.
• Ensure compliance with Lear EHS standards and local authority regulations.
• Perform and document technical studies and analyses on site feasibility and installation.
• Prepare the documentation the plant needs to start deploying the solution.
• Support technical training of key users on software, user interface and maintenance routines.
• Propose solutions to problems during installation and deployment and trigger actions with the plant.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Controls or Automation Engineering or a comparable discipline.
• 3-5 years of work experience in a related field or position within a manufacturing company.
• Fluency in English, written and spoken.
• Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.
• Legal authorization to work in the country where the position is located.

Required skills

• Machine vision: industrial cameras (Cognex, Keyence), lighting and optics, image acquisition, pattern recognition, OCR/OCV, defect detection, 2D and 3D vision systems.
• Automation and controls: PLCs, HMI systems, sensors and actuators, I/O wiring and commissioning, safety systems (IEC wiring, LOTO, ATEX/CompEx).
• Industrial networks: TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting, gateways, VLAN basics, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, troubleshooting communication issues.
• Preferred: AI-enabled vision systems, machine learning and deep learning, databases and manufacturing data analysis, Industry 4.0 technologies (Digital Twin, MES, industrial IoT), edge computing devices (NVIDIA Jetson, Google Coral).
