Mechanical Design Engineer – Early Talent

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer – Early Talent will design turbine and driven‑equipment mechanical system retrofits and upgrades for Caterpillar’s Customer Services Package Refurbishment and Upgrades (PRU) business. Working within a project team, you will translate customer requirements into safe, high‑quality, cost‑effective designs and support the execution of both minor upgrades and full package refurbishments.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical system retrofits and upgrades for turbine and driven equipment.
• Configure standard products to meet project specifications.
• Generate purchase orders for standard and extended‑scope components.
• Research, evaluate, and select special components.
• Prepare parts lists, manufacturing documentation, and regulatory documentation.
• Facilitate design reviews with peers and cross‑functional teams.
• Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, assembly, logistics, and field installation personnel.
• Gather and analyse project data, identify issues, and define engineering solutions with minimal supervision.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (mechanical or related).
• At least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Thorough, organized, and detail‑oriented.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced team environment and manage multiple projects.
• Good technical English; knowledge of Italian or German is a plus.
• Analytical mindset with solid problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• SolidWorks, Promis‑e, and/or Creo.
• Mechanical system engineering (starting, fuel, air, lubrication, sealing, enclosure).
• Interconnect design (piping, tubing, electrical systems).
• Preparation of regulatory documentation (CE marking, Declarations of Conformity, ATEX compliance).
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective action processes.
