Senior Software Engineer – Optimizer Hub

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Optimizer Hub team, you will design and build the server‑side services that power Azul's JVM performance platform. You will collaborate with product managers, performance engineers, and JVM experts to deliver high‑quality, scalable backend components for cloud and on‑premises environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance Java services, including APIs, protocols, data storage, and real‑time optimization engines.
• Debug complex distributed‑system issues with limited diagnostic data and under strict performance constraints.
• Implement observability, profiling, and diagnostic tooling for internal development and customer deployments.
• Drive performance analysis by creating benchmarks, interpreting profiler output, and applying improvements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional Java development focused on backend and server‑side systems.
• Deep understanding of JVM internals such as memory management, garbage collection, JIT compilation, and threading.
• Experience building and operating distributed microservices in production.
• Strong debugging skills for hard‑to‑reproduce production issues.

Required skills

• Java (core and advanced features)
• Concurrency and low‑latency design in Java
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Kubernetes
• gRPC, Protocol Buffers, WebSockets or high‑throughput messaging
• JVM‑adjacent technologies (ASM, Javassist, JVMTI, JVM agents)
• Performance profiling tools (async‑profiler, JFR, YourKit)
