Software Engineer – Backend Security (Java/Spring)

About the role

Thales is looking for a Software Engineer to build security‑critical backend systems that serve millions of users. You will work with the latest Java LTS and Spring Framework in a fast‑moving, ownership‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and ship backend services where security, correctness and maintainability are paramount.
• Break down ambiguous, high‑impact problems into clear, iterative plans.
• Collaborate closely with Product to craft technically sound, user‑aware solutions.
• Improve platform‑wide concerns such as reliability, observability, performance and deployment safety.
• Raise the bar through thoughtful code reviews, pragmatic architecture decisions and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in Java and strong hands‑on experience with Spring.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in English.
• Ability to work autonomously, de‑risk large problems and drive them to completion.
• Strong engineering intuition and focus on long‑term quality.

• CI/CD pipelines with extensive automated testing
• Authentication/Authorization flows: OIDC, OAuth2, MFA, WebAuthn, SAML, SCIM
• Distributed systems, observability, metrics, tracing, JVM optimization
• Cryptography fundamentals: TLS, JWT signing, secure hashing
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation, GitOps workflows
