Team Lead, Actors

About the role

Apify is looking for a Team Lead to head the Universe team, building and scaling core Actors that power AI use cases such as the Website Content Crawler. You will work hands‑on with code, guide technical direction, and help the team grow.

Key responsibilities

• Build and scale the Website Content Crawler and other core Actors that reliably crawl websites under real‑world load.
• Lead a small, cross‑functional team, taking ownership of technical decisions, planning, and mentorship while staying hands‑on.
• Contribute to Crawlee, Apify’s open‑source web‑scraping library, and step into product engineering when platform work is needed.
• Write clean, elegant code, conduct thorough reviews, and continuously refactor for quality.
• Reverse‑engineer website behavior, design developer‑friendly APIs, and integrate AI tools into the development workflow.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading a team or large projects, formal or informal.
• Strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js) and web technologies.
• At least 2 years of professional or open‑source work on a non‑trivial team project.
• Commitment to code quality, readability, and frequent refactoring.
• Practical use of AI tools in development and understanding of their strengths and limits.
• Problem‑solving mindset, system‑level thinking, and clear English communication.
