Senior Legal Counsel – Data Privacy & Regulatory

About the role
You will lead privacy‑by‑design initiatives across JetBrains’ global operations, turning complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance for product and engineering teams. The role combines legal expertise with close collaboration with AI, security, HR and engineering to ensure compliant, scalable data protection.
Key responsibilities
- Advise cross‑functional groups (AI, security, HR, engineering) on data privacy and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate product features, global data governance and cross‑border transfer mechanisms for privacy‑by‑design compliance.
- Draft, review and maintain data protection agreements, privacy policies and terms of service.
- Map data flows and technical operations to align with a coherent global regulatory framework.
- Research international regulatory shifts and produce clear legal memos and comparative analyses.
- Build and improve legal templates, DSAR processes and knowledge databases.
- Identify and assess legal risks related to new technology laws, product design and data processing.
- Drive process improvements, incorporating AI and automation tools where appropriate.
Required profile
- High adaptability to novel technical concepts and evolving foreign laws.
- Ability to translate complex legal jargon into clear, actionable advice for engineers and product teams.
- Creative, lateral problem‑solving backed by thorough research and critical thinking.
- Proactive mindset with strong independent prioritisation in a complex environment.
- Strong interest in optimizing legal workflows through automation.
- Transparency, honesty and a collaborative approach within a global team.
Required skills
- At least 8 years post‑qualification legal experience focused on data privacy, technology law or digital regulatory compliance.
- Proven track record implementing EU data protection regulations (GDPR, ePrivacy) in an international tech company.
- University‑level law degree.
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English.
- Demonstrated ability to draft privacy policies, terms of service and regulatory risk assessments.
