Forward Deployed Engineer - AI Prototyping & Product Engineering

About the role

Novartis is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer for AI prototyping and product engineering, based in Prague. The role works directly with life sciences and healthcare teams to turn ambitious AI ideas into products that scientists, clinicians and business teams can use. It moves from discovery and rapid prototyping to full-stack product engineering, enterprise integration, deployment and continuous improvement, using foundation models, AI-assisted development tools, retrieval-augmented generation and agentic approaches. Relocation support is not offered.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with business and domain teams to turn complex challenges into high-value AI product opportunities.
• Rapidly prototype, test and refine solutions through short build, demonstrate, learn cycles with users.
• Build end-to-end AI applications using Python, TypeScript, React, foundation models and reusable platform capabilities.
• Apply AI-assisted development tools and coding agents while keeping quality, security and maintainability.
• Develop retrieval-augmented generation, document intelligence, agentic workflows and automation for life sciences use cases.
• Integrate AI products with enterprise APIs, data platforms, identity services and business systems.
• Deploy secure applications on Amazon Web Services using Amazon Bedrock and cloud services.
• Set up automated testing, evaluation, observability, CI/CD and operational practices.
• Embed privacy, security, traceability and human oversight throughout the product lifecycle.
• Measure adoption and business outcomes and turn successful solutions into reusable capabilities.

Required profile

• About 8-12+ years of professional experience, including 5+ years building and delivering production software.
• Proven ownership of applications from discovery through deployment, adoption and continuous improvement.
• Desirable: experience building generative AI solutions with foundation models, RAG, agentic workflows and tool integrations.
• Desirable: experience in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, healthcare or another regulated environment.

Required skills

• Strong Python, able to build complete production applications beyond notebooks, prompts or model endpoints.
• Working-to-advanced TypeScript, JavaScript and React.
• APIs, data modelling, databases, authentication, testing, containers and cloud deployment.
• CI/CD practices.
• Desirable: generative AI, foundation models, RAG, agentic workflows, SQL, pandas, R.

What we offer

• Annual base salary range of 1,402,380 to 2,604,420 CZK, with a possible performance-based bonus.
