Functional Safety Specialist

About the role

ABB is seeking a Functional Safety Specialist to lead risk analyses for customers in the energy sector. You will conduct HAZOP and LOPA studies, determine SIL levels, and develop Safety Requirements Specifications in line with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and scribe HAZOP workshops, identifying deviations, causes and consequences.
• Perform LOPA assessments, define required Safety Instrumented Functions and their SIL.
• Develop Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS) for SIS design.
• Conduct FMEA for critical equipment when needed and present results to plant management.

Required profile

• University degree in electrical, power, automation, chemical or process engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in risk analysis, process control or functional safety.
• Hands‑on experience facilitating HAZOP and LOPA studies.
• Good English communication skills and willingness to travel, including abroad.

Required skills

• HAZOP and LOPA methodology.
• SIL determination according to IEC 61508/IEC 61511.
• FMEA techniques.
• Risk analysis software (e.g., PHA‑Pro, exSILentia).
• Understanding of control systems and instrumentation.
