Site Reliability Engineer (EMEA Hours)
expedia · Czechia
Job description
About the role
Expedia Group is building a new AI Ops Engineering team focused on reliability, incident response and operational excellence for its travel platforms (Expedia, Hotels.com, Vrbo and the B2B business). The role covers EMEA hours in a follow-the-sun team, handing over to the next region at the end of the shift, in a cloud-first AWS environment. It is about operational ownership, not building models.
Key responsibilities
- Own production health during EMEA hours and hand over cleanly to the next region.
- Act as first-line responder for production incidents: triage, troubleshoot, escalate and resolve within SLAs.
- Contribute across the full incident lifecycle, detection to follow-up, and take part in blameless post-incident reviews (RCA, 5 Whys).
- Build, tune and maintain alerts, dashboards and monitors, and reduce alert fatigue.
- Investigate issues across distributed systems on AWS using logs, metrics and traces (Splunk, Datadog or similar).
- Write runbooks, handover notes and operational documentation.
- Automate repetitive work with scripting and, where useful, infrastructure as code.
- Work with software engineers, platform teams and data/ML partners to improve operability of production services, including AI workloads.
- Take part in shift rotations including weekends, and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders during incidents.
Required profile
- Relevant technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience handling production incidents, including on-call or shift work under pressure.
- Working knowledge of the incident lifecycle and root cause analysis techniques such as 5 Whys.
- Clear written English, including structured shift handovers and incident updates.
- Willingness to work EMEA shifts, including weekends on a rotating basis.
Required skills
- Monitoring, logging and observability tools (Splunk, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, New Relic, CloudWatch)
- Creating, configuring and tuning alerts and monitors
- Solid troubleshooting across applications, networks and cloud infrastructure
- Working experience with AWS as a primary cloud platform
- Scripting (Python, Bash or similar) to automate operational tasks
- Preferred: Splunk/Datadog, Terraform or CloudFormation, PagerDuty/Opsgenie/ServiceNow, SLI/SLO definition, multi-region operations experience, AI/ML production support, and a track record of reducing incident volume or MTTR
What we offer
- Cash range in Prague of CZK 1,077,000 to CZK 1,507,500, with potential to reach CZK 1,723,000 on sustained performance.
- Medical, dental and vision coverage, paid time off, Employee Assistance Program.
- Wellness and travel reimbursement, travel discounts and IATAN membership.
