Underwriter - Assistant Vice President

About the role

Citi Commercial Bank is hiring an Underwriter (Assistant Vice President) in Prague, a client-facing role with full oversight of the end-to-end credit process: credit risk monitoring, credit package preparation and credit proposal review and approval. You will work with internal and external clients in Western Europe and the UK and cooperate with the Sales, Risk and Product teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare credit applications, check their completeness, ask for clarifications and assess them against policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Prepare an independent credit opinion, negotiate and set credit approval conditions, and prepare the credit package for approval, flagging exceptions and escalations.
• Make competent credit decisions within the assigned Credit Officer limit and in line with policies and guidelines.
• Monitor the portfolio of assigned clients throughout their lifecycle and escalate potential credit issues early, acting as first line of defense.
• Manage classified customers, propose strategies to avoid or minimize losses and prepare timely Classified Credit Memos.
• Prepare and approve credit packages within the required turnaround time and agreed CLM pipeline rules.
• Take part in CLM tasks such as round tables, quarterly financial and covenant checks, reporting, portfolio stress testing and audits.
• Advise junior colleagues in CLM and Sales on credit awareness and risk recognition, and share best practices across the European clusters.

Required profile

• University degree.
• At least 5 years of relevant banking experience (analytical, relationship management, EW or remedial position) or another relevant banking role.
• Strong verbal and written English; German, Italian, Spanish or French highly desired.
• Self-organized, able to work under pressure, with strong analytical thinking and a balanced risk-business approach.

Required skills

• Very good knowledge of financial statements, financial analysis and accounting rules, primarily IFRS EU.
• Deep understanding of bank products, collateral types, loan documentation standards and covenants.
• PC skills (MS Office) and willingness to learn Credit Approval systems and internal AI tools.
