Category Manager – Transportation Inbound & Outbound

About the role

The Category Manager – Transportation Inbound & Outbound will design, implement and continuously evolve the global sourcing strategy for freight, warehousing and distribution services within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment. The role ensures performance, risk mitigation, compliance and alignment with ESG and sustainability goals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a global sourcing strategy for transport and distribution, incorporating ESG commitments and regulatory requirements.
• Lead supplier consolidation, modal shift initiatives and monitor market dynamics to drive cost efficiency and service reliability.
• Manage strategic relationships with logistics providers and 3PLs, defining KPIs such as OTIF, temperature excursions and ESG compliance.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, Finance and Manufacturing on product launches, clinical trial logistics and transformation programmes.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities, support budgeting, optimise working capital and contribute to cash‑flow improvement.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics or related field.
• 8–12 years of procurement or category management experience, preferably in regulated industries.
• Strong negotiation track record and high financial acumen.
• Fluent English; additional European languages are a plus.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders without authority.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of logistics, distribution and 3PL models.
• Experience with digital freight platforms, AI‑powered route planning and other digital tools.
• Understanding of GDP and customs regulations.
