Director, Data Governance & Stewardship

About the role

Data Platforms & Governance within Animal Health IT is looking for a Director, Data Governance & Stewardship to lead the governance, master data and stewardship capabilities that make Animal Health data trusted, accessible and AI-ready at scale. The role sits in the Data, Analytics & AI Hub and works in a global, highly matrixed environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define and run a federated data governance model across global, regional and local levels, including decision rights, stewardship roles and governance forums, and implement policies for privacy, GxP, cybersecurity, data residency and retention.
• Own master and reference data management for Customer, Product, Supplier, Location and Material entities, set up reusable data model patterns and run risk-based data quality monitoring and issue management.
• Drive business glossary, catalog, semantic standards, metadata and end-to-end lineage, and define data product certification and lifecycle governance.
• Own access governance, including classification, role- and attribute-based policies, automated provisioning, periodic access reviews and audit reporting.
• Lead the AI-enabled governance and stewardship transformation, redesigning workflows and scaling proven approaches.
• Build a global stewardship network and community of practice, lead and develop a global team, staff data product squads and measure coverage, adoption and maturity.

Required profile

• 10+ years in data governance, master data management or data management, including 5+ years leading teams in a global organization.
• Proven experience designing and running MDM practices, data quality frameworks, catalogs, business glossaries and lineage.
• Experience with policy-based access control, data classification and privacy requirements.
• Experience establishing federated governance models and partnering with an enterprise data office or CoE.
• Experience in a regulated industry such as pharmaceutical, life sciences or animal health, including GxP, GDPR and audit requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal English.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of cloud data platforms, lakehouse architectures, MDM tools, data catalogs and governance technologies.
• Nice to have: DAMA CDMP certification, hands-on experience with Informatica IDMC, Collibra, Unity Catalog, Immuta, SAP S/4HANA, Salesforce or Veeva, and experience with data-as-a-product marketplaces.
