Technical Lead, External and Scientific Engagement

About the role

MSD is looking for a Technical Lead to shape and deliver the platforms behind its External and Scientific Engagement (ESE) products, which give field medical teams and the scientific community trusted scientific insights, clinical-study information and medical knowledge. The role guides the ingestion, transformation and harmonization of internal and external information so that it meets quality and regulatory expectations, and delivers it through secure, cloud-native applications. The ESE Product Line works with the Value & Implementation organization on technologies supporting medical affairs and outcomes research, and with Scientific Communications & Information Sciences to share trusted medical information with healthcare providers and patients worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and roadmap for the product area with product managers and architecture leaders
• Lead engineers in delivering secure, modern solutions and contribute to design and prototyping
• Assess current solutions and build modernization roadmaps that reduce technical risk
• Align solutions with experimentation, human-centered design and agile principles
• Translate business needs into technical requirements and inform sprint planning with feasibility and trade-off analysis
• Set technical, quality and delivery expectations for vendors and partners and hold them accountable
• Mentor engineers in technical design and solution architecture

Required profile

• Proven technical leadership: strong problem solving, mentoring engineers, owning the technical strategy of a product
• Able to work independently in ambiguous situations and set priorities
• Broad experience across frontend, backend and database technologies, guiding architecture trade-offs across languages and frameworks such as React, Python / FastAPI, Java / Spring Boot, Node.js / TypeScript and Databricks
• Hands-on software development and prototyping, with a track record of delivering high-quality solutions
• Cloud computing expertise including AWS and Azure, architecting cloud-native solutions
• Experience applying modern data-platform and AI/ML concepts to software delivery
• Cross-functional product team experience and experience governing strategic vendors and leading globally distributed engineering teams
• Nice to have: CI/CD experience, pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry background, SDLC knowledge, GxP/GCP validation experience
