Finance Assistant (HGB / US GAAP)

About the role

The Finance Assistant supports the Finance Team in day-to-day accounting and in monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes. The role requires solid knowledge of HGB and US GAAP and a strong understanding of German tax regulations, and involves independent handling of a wide variety of tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in monthly, quarterly and annual closings under HGB and US GAAP
• Handle day-to-day financial accounting, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger accounting
• Analyse margins, variances and trends to support management decisions
• Perform reconciliations, including intercompany and general ledger reconciliations
• Prepare reports, financial analyses and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
• Support tax-related matters, especially German VAT and income tax
• Contribute to process improvements, communicate with auditors and tax advisors, and collaborate with the local Finance Team

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a comparable commercial qualification
• 3-5 years of experience in accounting, ideally in an international environment
• Fluent written and spoken English and German
• Strong communication, presentation and analytical skills, with attention to detail and precision
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and in an international, fast-paced team

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of HGB and US GAAP; solid understanding of German tax regulations, especially VAT
• Advanced Excel and ERP systems (preferably proALPHA)
• Knowledge of local statutory and tax reporting requirements
