Senior Network Engineer - SD-WAN Platform

About the role

Heidelberg Materials is strengthening its 10-member Infrastructure IT engineering team in Brno and is looking for a Senior Network Engineer to help design, build, automate and operate a next-generation SD-WAN platform connecting a global enterprise. The role combines deep networking expertise with platform engineering and automation, influencing architecture, creating reusable standards and owning service reliability across the full product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Design secure, resilient global WAN solutions for branches, hubs, data centers and cloud connectivity.
• Engineer and manage the core head-end infrastructure of the enterprise WAN solution.
• Build templates, policies and zero-touch provisioning workflows for consistent site deployment at scale.
• Automate provisioning, validation, compliance and reporting using Python, APIs, Git and CI/CD.
• Lead migrations, upgrades, complex changes and technical problem resolution.
• Improve observability, service-level objectives, capacity management and self-healing capabilities.
• Collaborate with network, security, cloud, architecture, service-management teams and telecom carriers.
• Mentor other engineers and raise the quality of designs, documentation and engineering practices.

Required profile

• Several years of hands-on experience with enterprise WAN, SD-WAN or network architecture and engineering.
• Experience troubleshooting business-critical networks within incident, problem and change-management processes.
• Ability to turn complex requirements into clear designs, standards and implementation plans.
• Professional English and confidence working across international teams.

Required skills

• Routing and network security fundamentals: BGP, OSPF, VRF, VPN segmentation, QoS, NAT and IPsec.
• Expertise in at least one enterprise SD-WAN platform (Cisco, Versa, PAN) is highly valued.
• Automation with Python, REST APIs and Git; Ansible, Terraform or CI/CD experience is an advantage.
